WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME THAT YOU
HAD YOUR Hearing ASSESSED?

We all regularly have our teeth cleaned by our dentist, our blood pressure tested by our physician, and our eyes tested by our optometrist – but rarely do any of us have our hearing tested.

One of our biggest frustrations as audiologists is that we often spend far too much of our time easing patients into better hearing because their auditory system has been deprived of sound for so many years.  If these patients would have visited us for a routine hearing test when they first noticed signs of hearing loss, their adjustment to hearing aids would have been much easier and less frustrating and likely their word understanding wouldn’t be as impaired.

With a new report from the National Institute of Deafness and other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) approximating that 2.8 million adults in the United States have some form of a hearing loss, it’s fair to say that the US is currently experiencing an epidemic.

At Cornerstone Audiology, we feel an overwhelming obligation to help educate and support our local communities to encourage those with any sign of hearing loss to have their hearing professionally tested by an audiologist.

If you believe that you’re experiencing signs of hearing loss, or you believe that a loved one may be suffering, then we highly encourage you to schedule a hearing test.

You can schedule an appointment, or you can call our helpful team at 806-687-4327.

"Very quickly after I went in, my concerns were put to rest"

"The test that the audiologist ran was very good and I was very comfortable throughout"

Frequently asked questions about Hearing Tests

Q: How Long Does a Hearing Test Take?

For a new patient, we allow an hour and fifteen minutes for the initial appointment. During this time, our doctors get to know you by asking questions to understand your unique hearing situations and needs.

Q: HOW DOES A HEARING TEST WORK?

Our audiologists begin by performing an otoscopy (visual inspection of the outer ear and eardrum), and tympanometry (test to assess middle ear space). Pure tone audiometry is also performed to find a threshold at multiple frequencies. Word understanding testing helps us to determine the patient’s ability to process speech at different loudness levels.

Q: DOES A HEARING TEST HURT?

No, it doesn’t.

Q: WHAT'S THE INVESTMENT FOR A HEARING TEST?

Most insurances pay for one hearing test per year. We also offer reduced cost diagnostic hearing tests for those without insurance.

Q: WHAT HAPPENS AT THE END OF A HEARING TEST?

After a hearing test is finished, the audiologist will explain the results to the patient and discuss potential solutions if there is a hearing loss.
